What is in our fridge?

I thought this would be something interesting to document.  What are our staples here is Thailand?  What do we usually buy at the grocery store?

Well the biggest meal we buy for is breakfast.  Cereal is expensive and there isn't much of a variety so we have only bought it once.  We do oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins, eggs and toast, or yogurt and muesli (a type of granola).

We also have peanut butter for PB&J's which the boys and I eat a ton during the week when Jason is at school.  And for Sunday dinner we have spaghetti with red sauce (a pathetic sauce that tastes like Spaghettio's) but you take what you can get, right?  The boys LOVE spaghetti and it is a nice break from all the "weird" food we normally make them it.

I think now would be a good time to mention the food that I brought with us.  A cousin who took her small children to China for a couple months said she brought pancake mix and syrup to give the girls something they recognize and something that they love that reminds them of home.  I thought that was brilliant and I was going to bring pancakes, but Jason thought it would be too heavy.  So I brought a couple boxes of mac n cheese, some microwavable popcorn, and some jello.  The mac n cheese was a good idea... I haven't found any out here, but you can buy jello and popcorn and a good price out here.  They still love those things, but I didn't need to bring them.  I wish I would have brought fruit snacks and those apple sauce pouches.  They have the pouches, they just seem expensive, but I haven't found fruit snacks out here.

We usually shop at Tesco Lotus or Big C (which is Carrefour).  Tesco Lotus is closer so with no car, it is easiest for me to shop when it is just me and the boys.  Last time we went to Big C, we took a Taxi home which was nice to not have to carry it home!

Yogurt is a huge staple for us in Thailand!  We eat a ton of it.  See that pile on the right?  There are 5 4-packs of yogurt there and 2 puddings on top of those.  We have our water (can't drink tap water here), our milk, eggs, and the bottom drawer is filled with fresh fruits and veggies.  Mostly fruits because I don't know what to do with most of the veggies they have out here. ☺

Here is Will showing you what we have on the door.  Butter on the top left, yogurt drinks right next to it.  It actually is called something different on the container though.  They directly translated it to "fermented milk".  Which sounds gross so we call it yogurt drink which is about how it tastes.  My boys love it and go through a couple a day.  They comes with straws with a sharp end so you just poke it through the lid which is nice.  The yogurt comes with tiny spoons which is also convenient.  Next row we have strawberry jelly, and salad dressing.  Then the bottom row we have that yogurt drink, just in bulk, strawberry milk (a treat that nobody liked but me), and some fresh squeezed juice bottom right.

We have chicken breasts in the freezer and one time I bought frozen peas, but that's about it in the freezer, except for now because we have a half eaten ice cream cake in there from Jason's birthday. ☺
