Sasin MBA - Students and Student Teams

Like most MBA programs, courses at Sasin require a good deal of group work and group assignments.  For simplicity in scheduling and finding team members, my Analytical Decision team was made up entirely of UNC exchange students.  We all have the same class schedule and we are already used to working with each other, so it just made sense.  We had a little more diversity on our Competitive Strategy team since we had a full-time student from Sasin on our team as well.  Although he's an American originally from North Carolina so it wasn't all that diverse after all.

To get a more authentic experience and be more immersed in the Thai culture I probably should have tried to join a Thai team.  I was still able to interact a lot with the Thai students, but this way I could get my work done quickly and spend more time with my family.  There's always going to be tradeoffs I guess.

When comparing the students at Sasin to the students at UNC there are a couple of things that stick out to me.  First, rouhgly half of the students here are involved in family businesses, and will be working in that family business full time after graduation.  This was very different from what I'm used to because so much of my time and energy over the previous year and a half has been spent on recruiting -- to me it's just part of the MBA experience.  Also, it seems like nearly everyone I talk to either did their undergrad abroad, or are going to be going on an exchange program as part of their MBA experience.  Granted I'm on exchange abroad as well, but there's a much higher proportion of Sasin students going abroad than UNC students going abroad.
