Wat Arun is a Buddhist Temple in Bangkok. "Wat" is the Thai word for "temple". And Wat Arun directly translates to the "Temple of Dawn" which is named after Aruna, the Indian God of Dawn.
I think for most people, it is on the other side of the Chao Phraya River so you need to take a boat to get there. The top picture makes it look like it is a bunch of old stone, you would have no idea that the grey stone is covered in colorful tiles.
After you walk through a large gate not suitable for strollers... the boat ride docks where horrible as well for the strollers, you see these Buddhas along either side of the gate entrance. There is lots of walking to do for this trip so I would still bring strollers.
They also had these little carved men the same height as our boys. This isn't a very good picture, I just love Beckham's expression in it. ☺
The gate surrounds the main temple. You have to take your shoes to go inside. Jason, Will, and Beckham are walking around the outside of the temple where we needed to take our shoes off.
This is the inside. Notice that everyone is sitting mermaid style making sure their feet aren't pointing at the monk of the Buddha which is at the top right hand corner of the picture.
After you put your shoes on, you walk a little more to a gate within the first gate where you have to pay to get a ticket to see the first picture up close. This is the grey stone from the first picture up close... full of color!
The stairs to get to the different levels of the Temple are very steep. I didn't dare go up higher than the first level. Will was very brave and wanted to go higher. I took this picture only a couple steps lower than them! Will was afraid to come down the stairs and there was no way that I could carry Beckham down the stairs so Jason took Will all the way down then came back up for Beckham. ☺
