Week 9: Our Visit to Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is north of Bangkok, and it about an hour flight to get there.  It's a great place, not as touristy as Krabi, but is ready and has plenty of things for tourists to do.  Although for families, the night life is not so great because Chiang Mai has too many scantily dressed girls on corners if you know what I mean.  There are a lot more naturally grown trees there (as opposed to planting in a garden all lined in a row) I guess because it is more jungle-esque.  We didn't have problems with mosquitoes, although I did see a poor lady at the airport that was eaten alive.  Maybe it's because we avoid bananas... or maybe we stink, who knows?

This was the ceiling of the taxi we drove to the airport.  This cool taxi driver collects money from all over the world.  They are all small bills which i think is quite fitting for a man who gets handed smalls bills throughout his day.  Jason and I kind of wished we had something to contribute to his collection.

Look at this crazy guy's backpack!

This is our apartment, Galare Thong Apartments.  We were on the 7th floor.  Best 2 word description for this place? Polished Turd.
Funny side story... you see those orange colored slits?  Beckham got his head stuck in those... I was getting worried after a couple tries of trying to get him out, I finally did free him thank goodness.

The inside where we slept.  Will had the bed on the right and Beckham slept with Jason and I on the bigger bed.  A pigeon ran into our window a couple times during our stay....

And here is our welcoming shower... yes that is orange and black mold you see.  And did I mention the old, ugly, gross shower curtain?  We hardly took showers during our stay in Chiang Mai... polished turd.  I say that because this place looked really nice in the pictures on Airbnb.

This was the cafe downstairs.  We were supposed to get free breakfast every morning but we only got 2 vouchers for each day for a 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast kind of breakfast.  Not exactly sharable, what? Do they think that our kids don't eat?!?  They never brought out placemats or silver ware for them either.  We always had to ask.  But the food was relatively good, easy to get, and cheap so we ate here twice a day.

We went to a market called Siriwattana Market.  It was pretty awesome!  There was a ton of fresh fruit and veggies, and pretty much anything else you could want.

There was even an obedient dog waiting for their owner!

Don't know why, but a lot of people get their eggs on bags.  Three of ours broke by the time we got back home...

One day maids came to our apartment and this was the only thing they did.  Bring us towels... umm, thanks?

This was cool.  It's like a Taxi bus.  They pick up a bunch of people going to different places, then drop everyone off where they asked.

I got a picture of a baby on a bike!  I could tell that they were very concerned for the safety of their child though.  They were driving very carefully.

Check out this truck!  What?!?  Jason nicknamed it the Geo Metro Truck.

If you look at a map of Chiang Mai, you will notice an area that has a square river around it.  I have no proof, but I bet at one time, that was a mote!  You can still see parts of the old wall.

The Night Bizarre is a big deal out here.  It goes from 7pm to midnight.  It was pretty fun!

There was lots of cool stuff to see and buy, these are carved soaps!
